The story behind Greenway.

Although Greenway was officially founded in 2001 in the US, the basis for the company began in the late 1980s when Australian-born Marc Logan (mentored at the famed Royal Melbourne Golf Club) served as Superintendent at Mt. Lawley Golf Club in Perth from 1987-1999.

During his time at Lawley, Marc developed his proprietary turf management program. Based on perfecting an Old World program for maintaining turf grass while incorporating modern maintenance techniques, Marc’s turf program is a throw-back to a much simpler place and time. His holistic program produces superior playing surfaces at reduced costs using more favorable environmental practices and is considered the premier program in the world for sustaining bent grass greens and eliminating poa annua.

George Kelley, owner of the Stevinson Ranch Golf Club, first met Marc during their mutual involvement with the development and construction of Mayacama Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design private club in Sonoma, California.

George’s golf course, which was about five years old at the time, had begun to develop considerable poa in the greens, had become thatchy, and was costing more to maintain. Upon review of George’s course, Marc quickly dispelled the theory that poa on bent grass greens and thatch was inevitable. This meeting lead to George hiring Marc to consult and introduce his turf maintenance practices.

The results were unlike any George had ever seen. Under Marc’s guidance, poa was eliminated within a year while water, fertilizer, chemicals and labor expenses were all reduced, with the added benefit of incorporating the highest environmental standards.

Stevinson Ranch has since been selected the “Best Public Course Conditions” in America by Golf World.

Realizing the tremendous impact Marc’s program could have on the golf industry, George suggested they form a golf course maintenance company. This successful business start-up quickly lead to over 25 clients, including the famed San Francisco Golf Club. Ken Campbell, the third principal and COO, joined the company in 2006 to oversee operations and support the company’s growth.

Having successfully packaged Marc’s turf maintenance protocols, Greenway’s services are now used by courses throughout the U.S., Bahamas, Mexico and Ireland.
